Welcome back to Intellicast! We have a special guest joining Brian Lamar and Producer Brian this episode – Howard Fienberg of the Insights Association. If you don’t know who Howard is (you should), he is the market research industry’s lobbyist in Washington DC helping ensure that our industry’s perspective is taken into account with lawmakers. He joins the guys to talk about data privacy legislation and a few other topics.
Kicking off the episode, Howard gives Brian Lamar and Producer Brian some insights into what a lobbyist actually does, and what his day specifically is like.
They then get into a deep discussion around data privacy legislation, including CCPA, the upcoming CPRA, as well as other state-level data privacy laws that are being proposed or that are going into effect soon. As part of this discussion, Howard gives us the inside details on why a federal data privacy law is not likely to come any time soon. He also gives some advice to market research firms on what they should be doing to stay compliant with the various laws. (Keep in mind, Howard is not a lawyer and says so to kick off this interview)
In the last 10 minutes of the interview, we switch gears a bit and talk about a recent article Howard published about the use of non-competes in the market research industry, specifically non-compensated ones.
