New Survey On Teen Smartphone Addiction Has Surprising Findings

Screen Education, a non-profit organization focused on the mitigation of smartphone addiction in teens, has released the results of the national survey, finding that a majority of teens are so troubled by their smartphone addiction that they want to reduce the amount of time they spend on screens.

Conducted by Screen Education, with support from Stark Statistical Consulting and powered by EMI Research Solutions, the national study surveyed teens in grades 7-12. EMI fielded it from April 18 to April 25, 2018.

Some of the key findings include:
  • 65% wish they were better able to self-limit the time they spend on their smartphone
  • 68% have attempted to reduce the time they spend on their smartphone
  • 26% wish someone would limit the time they spend on their smartphone for them
  • 37% have tried to persuade a friend to reduce the time they spend on their smartphone
  • 53% of those who attend schools that ban smartphones in class are glad they do so
