Dear Fellow Researcher,
Happy New Year! We hope that 2012 was an exceptional year for you, both personally and professionally. As we dive into 2013, we wanted to take the time to reflect on some of the most common resolutions and how they correlate to the Market Research Industry:
Lose Weight: Find business partners that act with true benevolence, and lose those that do not. Working with fewer suppliers or clients allows you to focus on relationships that truly matter, are more profitable for both parties, and will result ultimately in greater success.
Learn Something New: If you plan to learn the guitar you don’t just read a how-to book, you actually pick up the guitar and start strumming. Stop standing on the MR sidelines and get in the game whether it be mobile surveys, social media, online qualitative, eye tracking, or any other innovative tool to gather or deliver insights.
Exercise: Every day you are either getting better or getting worse, you do not stay the same. Take this opportunity to strengthen your customer service, practice your sales pitch, or improve your endurance. Be better today.
Consume Less: Beware of the Kool-Aid companies are trying to get you to drink this year. Inspect the ingredients: how it is made, packaged, and delivered. Too often we buy something because it comes in the prettiest package or simply because that is what we have always purchased. Take this year to reassess how, why, and from whom you are buying your research services.
Volunteer: Get involved in the research industry. If you are an expert, consider speaking at an event. If you have fresh ideas then join a committee. If you have an opinion, share it by writing an article, a whitepaper, or commenting in a LinkedIn group. We need to be a vocal and active community if we are to make progress.
The Market Research industry is at a pivotal point. We must work together to outline what our clients’ needs are and how we can best meet them with a healthy mix of innovation, collaboration, and enthusiasm.
Cheers to a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2013!
